In 1969, a large protest about the park was put down by police firing buckshot from shotguns, which resulted in one death. But on top of that, there was a protest about People's Park, a public park in Berkeley that was in danger of closing. There were ongoing, large protests about the Vietnam War, which was happening all over the country. One other thing worth mentioning is that the concerts took place during a very fraught time for the town of Berkeley. The late show is somewhat shorter than the early one, at an hour and seven minutes compared to an hour and 25 minutes for the early show. I don't have much to say that I didn't say in my comments for the early show. But I do hope and assume that if you're downloading this, you already own the official version. I feel compelled to post the late show too, for consistency's sake, especially for the matching cover art I made, as well as the way I've broken all the talking between songs into their own tracks. One might understand this if the set lists were the same, but they're actually quite different. I've hesitated posting the late show, due to the simple though weird fact that the late show has been officially released while the early show has not. It ultimately was turned into the movie "Jimi Plays Berkeley." The entire evening was professionally recorded and even filmed. Both his early and late shows are considered among the very best of his concerts, both in terms of sound quality and performance. A couple of weeks ago, I posted the early show for Jimi Hendrix's famous concert in Berkeley, California, in 1970.
